(1969 Program)
In 1969, the Saint Louis Chamber of Commerce adopted an Action Program, with the objective of improving police-community relations throughout the bi-state area. In those movements the Medal of Valor awards was conceived and the first ceremony was held that same year honoring 11 local police officers. Since then, hundreds of local officers and citizens have been recognized for their bravery.
Regarded as the greatest honor a law enforcement person can receive locally, the Medal of Valor is awarded yearly at a ceremony and luncheon to only those persons who showed bravery and valor in a time of great risk to themselves and/or others.
Today, the Medal of Valor is under the great care of the Crusade Against Crime Medal of Valor Board. The board, which consist of local leaders in business and government, are dedicated to the recognition of bravery by law enforcement persons and citizens who assist them.
